How to send photos to the Haywire Planet Galleries

You must sign up and become a Haywire Planet Member before you recieve your free unlimited online photo album. Sign up here, it takes 1 minute and it is free. You will then be able to manage your own photographs by using the "My Account" link.

There are 2 types of photos you can send and each has a different sending method. Please follow the simple instructions below to send either Camera Phone or Digital photos to the Haywire Planet Galleries.

Send a Camera Phone Photo
(PXT or Photo Message)

Simple Instructions

Take a photo with your Camera Phone or select one from your camera phone album. Send the Photo Message (a photo txt) to the following email address:

"You must be a member". Note: You must send as a PXT/Photo Message to our email address, not an email from your phone.
You may call this a Photo Text Message.

Detailed instructions
Typically people send camera phone photo messages to their friends Camera Phones by either typing in their friends mobile phone number or selecting their name from the phones address book. To send to an email address instead of a phone number you will need to select “send to an email address” when composing your photo message.

Then type

in the email address area and send the message.

All mobile phones are different so please check your user manual if you have problems. You do not need to open an email account to send messages from a mobile phone to an email address. This would be a good time to add Haywire Planets email address to your phones address book. There is no need to type a message as we will know who you are from your mobile phone number that will match our database records. This is why we ask you for your Mobile Phone number when you register. If your phone number changes, please update your profile by selecting the “My Account” link. For tips on taking better Camera Phone Photos, please read the info further down this page.

Send a Digital Camera Photo

Instructions

Please "Sign In" and use the "Upload Photo" link to upload a photo. You will be asked to browse (locate) for the photo on your computer and then click the submit button. All photo's can be managed by using the "My Account" link. It is important to run your photo's through a photo editing program like "Photoshop" to reduce the size and adjust the contrast and color etc.. this will also automatically remove everything within the photo file that may prevent it from being an unaccepted formatt for the site. Photo files sent from allot of hi-end digital cameras that have not been edited often fail to appear on the site. If this happens, you will be notified. This happens because the newer cameras load photo details onto the photo that can be accessed later when editing.

Content
All submissions sent to Haywire Planet are screened by the Haywire Planet Team prior to being approved for the website. If you send inappropriate photos that would not be suitable for public viewing on the website, they will not be approved. We suggest you use your common sense to determine what is and what isn't suitable. For example: nudity, gore etc... just remember, if it's dodgey, don't waste your time. Having said that, you can still be very creative!

Tips for taking better mobile phone pictures
Whether you're a novice or a pro with your camera phone, we've got some tips that will help you take better pictures. Camera phones don't capture enough detail to make high-quality prints, but they're great for spontaneous pictures and sharing through e-mail or the Internet. So grab your camera phone and start experimenting.

Light
Make sure you have plenty of light on your subject. Example: If taking a photo of your pet, face your pets face towards the best light source. This will often be the sun.

Movement
Make sure you keep very still when taking the photo. Shaky hands make for blurry photos. Distance:Make sure you are close to your subject. Try to fill the frame.

Check
Check to see how the photo looks on your phone before you send it. If it's just average, take another one!

Photo Contests

Only members can vote and leave comments about photos in the galleries. Only one vote and comment is allowed per photo. The photos you have in your Haywire Album are also available for viewing, voting and comments in the photo galleries. This is a great way to test your photos and see what kind of votes and comments they receive. When a photo contest starts, you will receive an email from us asking you to logon to the website  and submit your 5 best images to the contest from your Haywire Album by using the "My Account" link. You will be able to monitor your photos progress by simply logging on and checking your album. We suggest doing this on a regular basis as you might like to replace a photo if it's not doing well after a few weeks in a contest. When you submit a photo to a contest, it will start with a score of zero. The original photo will remain in the gallery and retain it's score for as long as you leave it there. It is also possible to submit Digital Photos directly to a contest using the "Upload Photo" page. This option will only be available if there is a digital photo contest in progress. The contests will usually run for 2 months. The photo with the highest points at the end of the contest will win 1st prize! Please see "Contest Rules" for more detailed information. Contests may vary in different ways, so please be sure to check on the details for each contest if you plan to enter one. The easiest way to see if there are any contests running is to check the indicators next to the Camera Phone and Digital Camera buttons under Contests. Green is active, red is not active.

Tell a Friend
Tell a friend to logon to www.haywireplanet.co.nz and sort the gallery photos by entering your username in the search window. They will then be able to see all your photos. Try emailing or texting the website address to your friends and family along with your username and tell them to keep an eye on your album while you are on vacation. They will be able to enjoy your photos as you submit them to the website. The great thing about sending a Camera Phone Photo is, you don't have to send your photos to each person individually and you can send them from anywhere that you have a phone signal. Private albums are also available for a small fee, please contact us for more details. Alternatively, you can use the "Send this page to a Friend" link found under each video/flash movie or "Tell a Friend" button under each photo. Simply fill in the form and click submit, your friends will recieve an email with a link pointing to the page you wish to share with them.

Member Rankings
All members are ranked based on the amount of votes and comments you have submitted in the galleries. Your rank will be displayed next to your member name in the form of stars. You will be awarded one Gold Star for every 50 votes you cast which will become a Blue Star once you reach 200. Eg: 470 votes cast = 2 Blue Stars + 1 Gold Star.
